In January 2016, Watson took to Twitter to announce "Our Shared Shelf" -- a feminist book club with a focus on "books and essays about equality" and which is open for everyone to join.
At the time of writing, the group had around 175,000 members.
Watson shared photos of herself on social media hiding free copies of Maya Angelou's Mom & Me & Momaround the London Underground for people to find.

"There are many huge and high hurdles left to jump," says Watson in the film above. "The race is still on -- every day of every year of our lives. But we will cross the finish line."
"No one can stop us."
As part of a collaboration with Vanity Fair, Emma Watson appeared via an iPad video feed in Grand Central to give advice to commuters for the gloriously cheap sum of $2.

After she was criticised for her braless Vanity Fairphotoshoot, Watson hit back in a BBC interview with this unforgettable line: "Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women with. It's about freedom; it's about liberation; it's about equality. I really don't see what my tits have to do with it."

Over a million people have committed to HeForShe -- a campaign group that aims to promote gender equality -- since it was launched by Watson in 2014.
Following the launch of HeForShe, Watson gave a powerful United Nations address which quickly went viral.
"I am from Britain and think it is right that as a woman I am paid the same as my male counterparts," says Watson in the 2014 clip above.
"I think it is right that I should be able to make decisions about my own body. I think it is right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and decision-making of my country. I think it is right that socially I am afforded the same respect as men. But sadly I can say that there is no one country in the world where all women can expect to receive these rights."
A few months after her UN speech, Watson gave another memorable speech at the World Economic Forum about the representation of women.
"It is my belief that there is a greater understanding than ever that women need to be equal participants in our homes, in our societies, in our governments, and in our work places," says Watson.
"And they know that the world is being held back in every way because they are not."
