【Secret Tutoring (2018)】

It's taken 21 films to get to this point,Secret Tutoring (2018) but Captain Marvelmarks a groundbreaking first for the franchise: Carol Danvers is, to date, the only Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero with a pet cat.

Okay, so technically Goose is neither a pet nor a cat. But she's about as close as we've seen from this franchise, give or take an Ant-ony from Ant-Man, which is surprising given that over half of American households have pets IRL.

Maybe it's time for that to change. Because if there's one thing to be gleaned from the many, manyscenes of Nick Fury or Carol Danvers cuddling up to Goose in Captain Marvel, it's that no one needs a pet more than your stereotypical big-screen superhero.

Super-soldier struggling with loneliness? Give him an animal companion who'll stick by him no matter what. Literal god feeling misunderstood? A pet would love him unconditionally. Alien warrior exhausted after a long hard day of world-saving? What could be more restorative than curling up with a cute creature?

But, look, we get it. Having a pet is hard work, and Avengers rarely seem to have much free time in between all those city-destroying CG battles. Which is why we've taken the liberty of completing the first step of pet ownership – deciding what kind of pet to get – for our favorite crusaders.

Captain America: Pit bull

Pit bulls are the Bucky Barneses of dog breeds: stereotyped as violent and aggressive, when really they're just misunderstood softies.

Bucky Barnes: Golden retriever

By that same token, it's hard to imagine anything that'd delight Bucky more than a dog who reminds him of his very best friend, Steve Rogers, and seems equally determined to stick with him 'til the end of the line.

Bruce Banner: Lab mouse

There is no way this man of science has never encountered a lab mouse, and there's no way this gentle soul managed not to fall in love with its beady little eyes.

Thor: Sulcata tortoise

By his own account in Avengers: Infinity War, Thor is about 1,500 years old. A short-lived betta fish isn't gonna cut it. Give the man a big, friendly tortoise to cherish for decades to come.

Spider-Man: Hamster

Peter Parker is totally that kid in class who was so responsible that the teacher let him take the pet hamster home. Besides, hamsters are basically the only animal small enough to live in his tiny New York City apartment.

Wong: Snowy owl

You just know this magic man loves Harry Potter.

Groot: Budgie

The only way Groot could be cuter is with a bright, chatty bird in his branches. Granted, budgie vocabularies tend to be pretty limited, but they'd really only need to learn "I am Groot," anyway.

Vision: Cat (the non-Flerken kind)

Vision is not always great at understanding organic lifeforms, but he's determined to try, damnit. He likes cats because he relates to both their independence and their neediness.

Korg: Rock

Someone gave him a pet rock as a joke. It was not a joke to him.

Dora Milaje: Fish tank

Protecting Wakanda doesn't leave a lot of time for raising animals, but the Dora Milaje have a shared tank filled with vibranium-enhanced versions of exotic fish from around the world.

Iron Man: Pig

He impulse-bought what he thoughtwas a teacup pig when they were super trendy a few years ago, but it grew up to be just a regular pig. He cherishes it anyway.

Pepper Potts: Miniature horse

Tony may have also impulse-bought a miniature horse for Pepper after they binge-watched a few too many episodes of Parks & Recreationone night. She pretended to be exasperated, but this former horse girl was secretly thrilled.

Hawkeye: Iron Man's pig and Pepper's horse

Eventually, however, Tony and Pepper had to admit that city living didn't really suit these creatures, and unleashed them on Hawkeye's farm while he was away on a mission. By the time he got back, his kids had grown attached and wouldn't hear of getting rid of them.
