In-flight boredom can Singapore Archivesoften be soothed by the screen planted on the seat before you. But that small luxury will soon be nixed from a set of new jets from American Airlines.
Instead, the company said, passengers can just bring their laptops, phones and other gadgets if they need a little entertainment on the journey.

The company reports that 90 percent of the people on board American flights bring their own screens, according to a statement emailed to Mashable.
By providing a strong Wi-Fi connection, the airline says its customers' needs should be met -- a tactic also being used by United Airlines on its single-aisle jets, CNN reports. The seatback screens will still remain on some American aircraft, particularly for international flights.
The airline will offer "free streaming [of] high-quality movies and music" aboard flights and is investing in "fast satellite-based internet access and power at every seat across our domestic fleet."
"Every customer with a phone, tablet or laptop will be able to watch free movies and TV shows from our extensive on-board library, as well as free live television channels, all without purchasing an in-flight internet connection," the statement reads.
So just make sure you don't forget the gadgets -- and keep them in your hand luggage.
