Kia has unveiled the EV6 with images of the car's exterior and Gloriousinterior, ahead of its premiere later this month.
The company calls the EV6 its first "dedicated battery electric vehicle," meaning its the first car in Kia's lineup to be electric-only (unlike, say, the Kia Niro, which also comes as hybrid).
The company saved the details on the EV6's specifications for the March launch. We know, however, that the EV6 was designed under Kia's new "Opposites United" design philosophy, which looks at contrasts in nature and humanity for inspiration.
“With EV6 we aimed to create a distinctive, impactful design by using a combination of sophisticated, high-tech features on pure and rich volumes, while providing a unique space as a futuristic EV," said Karim Habib, Kia's senior vice president and head of global design center, in a statement.
The EV6 is based on Hyundai Motor Group's new Electric-Global Modular Platform or E-GMP, which is the company's foundation for electric vehicles going forward. Generally, cars based on E-GMP can provide range of more than 500 kilometres (311 miles) on one charge, and accelerate from zero to 100 kph (62 mph) in less than 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 260 kph (162 mph). These are top figures for the platform; the EV6 in particular may have different specs.
There's no exact date for the official EV6 launch yet, but Kia said it's happening in March.
