But wait: these aren't just any suburbs. They're suburbs in a magical fantasy universe where dragons fly overhead, unicorns dig through trash cans ("they're like possums," explains director Dan Scanlon), and mushroom houses line the streets.

But unlike in, say, a Lord of the Ringsmovie, these mushroom houses have satellite dishes poking out of their roofs and minivans parked in front.
The untitled film follows two teenage brothers whose father died when they were too young to remember him. They set out on a quest through their "mundane magical world" to somehow spend one last special day with their dad.
At Disney's D23 expo on Friday, Scanlon explained that his new film was inspired by his own life: his own father passed away when he and his brother were one and three years old, respectively, and it wasn't until many years later that they got to hear his voice for the very first time, on a cassette tape passed along to them by a relative.
