Citic Press,Watch Brooklyn Nine a leading Chinese publishing institution, announced it will release the physical edition of Shadow Deity Illustrations, an art book depicting all the characters from the action role-playing game Black Myth: Wukong. The book is scheduled to go on sale after the Chinese Lunar New Year, which begins on Jan. 29, 2025. Inspired by traditional Chinese painting techniques, the book features portraits of each character, accompanied by their name, a short poem, and a detailed backstory. The standard edition of Shadow Deity Illustrations is priced at RMB 159.2 ($21.72), while the deluxe edition is available for RMB 342 ($46.65). The pricing reflects the game’s connection to Journey to the West, a classic Chinese novel published in 1592 during the Ming Dynasty. In the novel, the mythological protagonist, the Monkey King, is described as having a 342-year lifespan. [Citic Press Weibo, in Chinese]
